Label guide
The first question is how your device prints: directly on thermal paper, or with a ribbon. If you load labels without a thermal coating into a device that prints without a ribbon, they come out blank.
The print head darkens the thermal paper with heat, without a ribbon. The print fades over time with heat and light, so these labels suit products that don't stay long on the shelf.
The print head heats the ribbon, which transfers wax or resin onto the label. The print lasts longer than on direct thermal labels. The ribbon has to match the label: wax for paper labels, resin for plastic labels.
Eco thermal labels have no protective coating and are for dry goods that sell quickly. Top labels have a top coating that keeps the print longer and resists rubbing better, so they're better for meat, fish, chilled products and any pack that's handled a lot or gets wet.
DIGI scales take labels up to 60 mm wide. Besides the label width and height, measure the core diameter at the center of the roll and the largest roll your device can hold.
Linerless labels have no backing paper, so more labels fit on a roll and less paper is thrown away. They need a device built for them, such as the DIGI SM-120. Ask us about linerless rolls.

Open the printer cover. If there's a roll of dark film as well as the label roll, the device prints with a ribbon. If there's only the label roll, it prints directly on thermal paper. If you're not sure, tell us the brand and model.
It depends on the paper. Thermal print fades over time with heat and light, and top labels hold it better than eco. When the print has to last a long time, thermal transfer with a ribbon is used.
Yes, self-adhesive labels on rolls also come in thermal material for refrigerated use. Standard adhesive may not hold well on cold or wet packs, so when you ask for a quote, tell us at what temperature the product is stored.
